“Deciding if I wanted to propose to the woman of my dreams was the easy part. It was the journey that led us to that fateful day that was the challenge.rnrnYou see, my girlfriend (at the time) was the perfect woman and I knew within a few months that I was going to ask her to be my wife. rnrnThe first step towards that journey was to figure out her ring size. Yes, I’m a guy, I had no clue. I asked every last one of her friends until I found one who knew. With her size, I now had to secretly buy the ring. As I spent all of my available time with her, it was not easy sneaking away to go ring shopping. I ended up taking a day off from work to pull it off. It was a simple, but brilliant, 1.5 carat round cut. Like her, it was gorgeous and I knew she would love it.rnrnThe next step was probably the most frightening: to get permission from her father. I paced back and forth, and forth and back, until I was able to muster enough courage to simply place the call to request the meeting. Again, as I spent all of my available time with her, setting up a secret meeting with her father was no easy task, let alone the task at hand. It turned out to be a successful meeting with my future father-in-law (and mother-in-law) saying that they’d be proud to have me as a son.rnrnNext on the agenda was how. Hearing about all these unique and romantic proposal stories, one could easily get intimidated. But since this was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, I wanted to make sure ours would be a memorable moment as well.rnrnAs an avid ukulele player, she had always asked me to write a song for her. I kept telling her it was coming, but had yet to deliver. I figured, what better opportunity than this than to write an original song for her and perform it on my ukulele? And, oh-by-the-way, let’s record ourselves just for fun. :)rnrnEverything worked out perfectly. The song (other than my nerves) went off without a hitch, the ring fit, the whole thing was filmed, and most importantly, she said YES! On top of that, my ailing grandma just so happen to be in town from Japan, so we were able to share that moment with her.rnrnThough my grandma was unable to be there with us for our wedding, I’m sure she is smiling somewhere and happy that we found each other.”
