In a mansion
Plays viola
Dancing around
Giddy in
flouncy gowns
Oriental rugs
line the ground
where
Keys scratch
Wooden floors
Marble arched
sliding doors
What’s the word
I’m looking for?
Skidoo-Anger
Isolation
Rules the world
It’s a mind fuck
Same child
New life
Old style
So sour
From the start
Bitter
until the end
His Notes: no, it ain’t about a dead dog!
it’s a metaphor dang it!
i loved that woman more than she ever knowed
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
took him for a ride and left him out in the cold
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
i tried to fetch every stick she throwed
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
never seen it comin’ cause he’s movin’ too slow
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
she said she loved me but it never showed
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
took him for a ride and left him out in the cold
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
never seen it comin’ cause he’s movin’ too slow
now somebody’s good dog
is layin’ by the road
His Notes: A delightful song by Bert Bacharach and Hal David. After ealier versions by Richard Chamberlain and a demo by Dionne Warwick, The Carpenters recorded it and it became their first major hit and the start of a fruitful partnership with the composers.
Here it is played and arranged by Colin Tribe on Ukulele and this version is also in the VCM exam syllabus as part of a Grade 7 medley. Music & tabs from colinrtribe@btinternet.com
Their Notes: Lo-Fi, off-the-cuff, Transatlantic duet with one of my very favourite ukers, MrJellyRollBaker (check out his channel! http://www.youtube.com/user/MrJellyrollBaker ).
The editing of the images was done by our mutual good friend BeareTube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/BeareTube ) in Australia, making it a real global collaboration.
This is us doing the Coasters’ hit “Searchin'”. The Beatles also played this tune at their infamous audition for Decca.
Who said ukulele groups are on their way out?!

Everything we knew was wrong.
Walk out the door and slam the screen.
We were only seventeen
so long, so long, so long ago.
Living in the shadow of the S.A.T.s,
drinking apple vinegar we thought was wine.
The war back then was fine with me,
so long, so long, so long ago.
so long, so long, so long ago.
So long, so long ago.
So maybe you remember Rohner Park,
black but for the light above the bridge.
Sitting on the swings, half in the dark,
laughing at things so wrong, so great,
so long ago.
So long, so long ago.
Every joke we told was cribbed,
stolen from a late night show
and said as if it were ad-libbed
so long, so long, so long ago.
And maybe you remember how
the adults then sung a bittersweet song
with the same words that Im singing now:
so long, so long, so long ago.
So long, so long ago.
So maybe you remember Rohner Park
before it was a park and just a field,
where, prior to the diamonds, grasses wild
were growing.
Was it so wrong, or great,
so long ago?
So long, so long ago.
