Colin R Tribe – Close to You

One of my favorite songs for the uke….

YouTube Channel: colinrtribe

His Notes: A delightful song by Bert Bacharach and Hal David. After ealier versions by Richard Chamberlain and a demo by Dionne Warwick, The Carpenters recorded it and it became their first major hit and the start of a fruitful partnership with the composers.
Here it is played and arranged by Colin Tribe on Ukulele and this version is also in the VCM exam syllabus as part of a Grade 7 medley. Music & tabs from colinrtribe@btinternet.com

WininBoy & MrJellyRollBarker – Searchin

Sweet….

YouTube Channel: wininboy

Their Notes: Lo-Fi, off-the-cuff, Transatlantic duet with one of my very favourite ukers, MrJellyRollBaker (check out his channel! http://www.youtube.com/user/MrJellyrollBaker ).

The editing of the images was done by our mutual good friend BeareTube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/BeareTube ) in Australia, making it a real global collaboration.

This is us doing the Coasters’ hit “Searchin’”. The Beatles also played this tune at their infamous audition for Decca.
Who said ukulele groups are on their way out?!

tUnE-yArDs – Bizness

Merrill Garbus, who is the most unconventional of ukulele player, was the first UkeToob interview.  Not that I am claiming any part of her success, but it does my little heart good to see her getting the attention she so deserves.  Can’t wait for the new album….

Peach Fuzz – Rocking the Suburbs

Uncle!  I have been defending the Bushman contest for years and I think I am done.  Not knocking the winners (very cute) but I had to go all the way down the winner’s list to number 7 before I found a video I would have posted here, and already have (Astro Defenders & the Goose.)  So out of the list of winners, Astro is my number one, and this song by Peach Fuzz, number 9 on the Bushman list, is my number two.

There have been many things written about the wisdom of crowds, like how the average of a large group of people guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar will be closer to the exact number than any one guesser in the group.  Either this contest needs a much, much bigger group, or the voting is still skewed in some way.

rebexa – Friday

Prepare for an onslaught – the unanimous trouncing poor Rebecca Black took for this song may have inadvertently given everyone permission to take a whack at covering it….

YouTube Channel: rebexa

Their Notes: “Lets get drunk and do a version of Friday!” “YEAH, EPIC IDEA! ”

Awful singing in Scottish accents adds a whole new dimension to this song.
